A David Jones employee randomly selected names from the phone book to help her steal more than $5000 from the Wollongong department store, Wollongong Local Court heard yesterday.

Joanne Brazulaitis' scam came unstuck when David Jones' loss prevention officers detected "suspect cash refunds".

Brazulaitis, who worked in the store's nursery and babywear section, pleaded guilty yesterday to 62 charges of larceny as a clerk.

The court heard the 27-year-old filled out and forged signatures on refund dockets and claimed the money for herself.

Brazulaitis used names from the phone book or customer's names on the dockets.

The court heard she illegally obtained $5140 between February 14 and June 20 this year, but had since paid the money back.

Brazulaitis, of Boronia Ave, Albion Park Rail, was sentenced yesterday to 200 hours community service.
